Check in at the school main lobby will open at 9 am. After checking in, proceed to the gym where you'll be directed to your display area. Inventors will be grouped into judging "circles" of similar grade. All inventors should be checked in by 10 am.
Please be seated in the auditorium by 10:15 for opening remarks.
Parents escort inventors back to their judging circle. Invention Convention staff will be on hand to assist inventors. Parents/chaperones may watch from the bleachers or relax in the nearby cafeteria.
Volunteer judges will visit their assigned projects and hear about your inventor's ideas. Inventor's should be prepared to share a brief (2-4 minute) overview of their invention and answer any questions from their judges. Here are some tips on what to share. Invention Convention staff will be on hand to assist inventors.
Parents/chaperones reunite with their inventors for lunch on your own.
Break for lunch on your own and project viewing. Some individual slices of pizza will be for sale in the cafeteria at the concession table, but we encourage pre-ordering a pizza for any families that want to buy pizza. Families may also bring their own food. Inventions may be viewed in the gym (please no food on the invention floor). Projects may be taken down after 1:15.
Please be seated in the auditorium for the awards ceremony.
Any remaining projects should be collected. Please stop by the lobby before departing to turn in your badges and receive a parting gift!
Please reach us at kerry@ctinventionconvention.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Check-in will open at 9:00 am and run until 10:00 am. Inventors can expect to depart between 2 and 2:30 pm.
Inventors must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Other family members are welcome to attend as well if you like and do not need to register. Please note however that there is down time during the event and families are asked to exit the gym floor during judging.
We ask that parents and chaperones exit the invention floor during judging. Judges will need to be able to move around and speak to their inventors with as limited crowd and noise as possible. Event staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist inventors during judging. Chaperones are welcome to sit in the bleachers or relax in the cafeteria during judging. We recognize that some inventors may have need for a parent to stay close by, and we can accommodate those instances.
Inventors will need a project display board (guidelines), their invention prototype (guidelines) and a printed copy of their logbook. Food may be brought to the event, but is not allowed on the gym floor. We encourage inventors to keep a water bottle with them.
Yes, Inventors can continue to make improvements to their prototypes and other project materials prior to the event if they would like.
A group of 2-3 volunteer judges will visit your judging group to view projects and hear about your inventor's ideas. Inventors should be prepared to share a brief (2-4 minute) overview of their invention and answer questions from their judges. Our judges are excited to hear about your great ideas, so just tell the story of your invention! Here are some guidelines and tips for what you might want to share.
Inventors should dress in whatever they are comfortable wearing. Many inventors opt for smart casual attire, and choose to wear their invention convention t shirt during the event. Shirts will be handed out in the morning. Inventors should wear comfortable shoes as they will be standing for a good portion of the morning.
Food is not provided. Light concessions/snacks and pizza will be available for purchase at the event. You may also bring your own food.
