The Avangrid Sustainability Award is designed to recognize and award a young inventor whose innovation represents a creative application of sustainable thinking and commitment to a clean energy future.


Belcan Passion to Innovate Award

The Belcan Passion to Innovate Award is an award presented in recognition of a student whose attitude and passion -- including qualities like enthusiasm, open-mindedness, compassion, perseverance, and creativity -- best reflect the qualities of a true innovator.

Connecticut Environmental Forum Environmental Innovation Awards

These awards are presented by CIC partner the Connecticut Environmental Forum to students and their inventions who demonstrate particular success in environmental sustainability.


Connecticut Science Center Awards

These awards are presented by CIC sponsor Connecticut Science Center to a student whose invention represents a particularly creative and innovative solution in the field of science broadly, and energy and sustainability specifically. Winning students will have their invention display boards presented at the Connecticut Science Center for a full month. 


The Delilah Van Ness Award for Independent Inventors and Innovators

The Delilah Van Ness Innovation Award honors the memory of Delilah Van Ness, a beloved independent inventor and cherished member of the CIC community. This award is presented to an independent inventor who embodies the same qualities Delilah demonstrated — one who not only shows exceptional inventiveness but also demonstrates a deep care for their community. 


Emerson (Global) Green Innovations Award

The Emerson Green Innovations Award is granted to an inventor who exemplifies the Emerson cause of “Planet”, seeking to improve the ecological landscape of our Earth with their invention.


Dominion Energy Innovation Award

The Dominion Energy Innovation Award is designed to recognize and award a young inventor whose innovation represents a unique innovation in the field of of a sustainable and clean energy future.


ESPN Innovation Award

The ESPN Awards recognize four distinguished inventors who have taken strides to innovate in the field of athletic technology and equipment, highlighting exemplary applications of technology that improve the safety and efficiency of athletes everywhere.


The Eversource Award

This Best of Show award is presented by CIC partner Eversource to a student whose invention is particularly innovative in the field of energy and energy sustainability. 


Fire Marshal Awards

These awards are presented by the Connecticut Fire Marshal Association, and are issued to students whose inventions represent particularly innovative solutions in the field of fire and home safety. Winning students will be invited to attend and present the association’s annual gala breakfast.


Gartner Research Award

The Gartner Research Award recognizes an inventor whose invention demonstrates forward-thinking innovation and a strong understanding of future trends. This award reflects Gartner's commitment to guiding the next generation of leaders in shaping technology and business solutions.


Gawlicki Family Foundation “Seeking A Solution” Award

This award is presented to an outstanding young inventor from the Greater Hartford area by the The Gawlicki Family Foundation. In their own words, “we support the Connecticut Invention Convention because of the creativity and critical thinking that it requires of its student participants. As inventors, these students investigate issues or problems that they feel they can improve or solve. They think through a solution and create an invention intended to solve the problem. This active process of investigating an issue and seeking a solution is a great learning tool that will benefit the student throughout their academic and work life.”


Google Accessible Education Award

The Google Education Access award is awarded to an inventor whose innovation best advances learning opportunities for educators and learners, with a particular focus on tools that set communities up for success in building the future they want for themselves.


Hubbell Light Bulb Moment Award

This award is presented by CIC Hubbell Incorporated to an inventor whose invention represents a uniquely creative solution combining electronic devices and energy systems.


The Jacobs Family Award

This award is presented by The Jacobs Family to a top-scoring inventor in the fields of animal science and pet care.


Kid Governor's Choice Award

The Kid Governor's Choice Award recognizes the invention that best aligns with the sitting Kid Governor's platform and is selected by the Kid Governor and their Cabinet Members. The current Kid Governor is Keudy Martine and his platform addresses school safety. 


The Kutnick Family Award

This award is presented by The Kutnick Family Foundation to a student with a particularly innovative approach to keeping water safe, clean, and sustainable.


Lincoln Financial Foundation Presidential Awards

These awards are presented to students and their inventions by CIC partner Lincoln Financial Foundation, designed to recognize outstanding inventors in the fields of Energy, Medical Accessibility, Home Organization, and Safety.


The Linde Award

The Linde Award is designed to recognize a young inventor whose innovation represents a novel

application of technology to help create a more sustainable future.

 

Lockheed Martin High School Innovator Award

The Lockheed Martin Middle School Innovator Award recognizes the most outstanding application of engineering design, creative-thinking, and perseverance in the face of tough challenges within the high school age group.

The Lockheed Martin Middle School Innovator Award recognizes the most outstanding application of engineering design, creative-thinking, and perseverance in the face of tough challenges within the middle school age group.


Long Island Sound Study Aquatic Innovator Award

The Aquatic Innovator Award, presented by the Long Island Sound Study, is granted to an inventor who has displayed a unique passion for the marine ecosystem and its surrounding environment. The inventor who earns this award is recognized for their exemplary application of creativity to solving challenges related to the marine environment and the people who live and work within it.


Merrill Lynch Fairfield Innovator Award

The Merrill Lynch Fairfield Innovator Award honors a student from Fairfield, CT whose invention demonstrates exceptional innovation, market potential, and real-world impact. The award reflects the firm's commitment to empowering the next generation of thinkers and leaders in their pursuit of meaningful, forward-thinking solutions.


McCormick, Paulding, and Huber Patent Award

This Best of Show award is awarded to a student and their invention by the intellectual property law firm, McCormick, Paulding, and Huber PLLC. The winning inventor will receive pro-bono patent application services for MP&H. 


NASA Space Grant Rising STAAR Award

The NASA Space Grant Consortium Rising STAAR Award recognizes a top-performing young inventor in the themes of Space, Technology, Aerospace, Aeronautics, and Robotics. 


NBC “Connecting You” Award

The NBC Connecting You award is presented by CIC partner NBC and designed to recognize a CIC State Finalist who goes above in reflecting the values and mission of NBC and its affiliates. In particular, it recognizes a student within Comcast’s service area who has does an exceptional job of connecting their community. The winning inventor will have an opportunity to share their story through a to-be-determined NBC medium. 


Petit Family Foundation Promising Young Woman Awards

To honor the lives of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Hayley Petit, and Michaela Petit, CIC partner the Petit Family Foundation presents these awards to three high scoring, creative, and intrepid young female inventors. 


Pfizer Health and Safety Award

This award is presented by CIC partner Pfizer to an exceptional medical technology inventor.


Push For Entrepreneurship Sports and Fitness Award

Push For Entrepreneurship is the largest annual fundraiser of the Connecticut Invention Convention, bringing together hundreds of supporters of fitness and youth innovation. This award is presented on behalf of these supporters and to a young inventor advancing health and fitness-oriented living for all. 


RTX Dependable Power Awards

These two Best of Show awards are presented by long-time CIC partner RTX. This award is designed to recognize students with creative uses of power. RTX is one of the largest and oldest innovators in aircraft engines and propulsion engineering in the world. As an earnest advocate of STEM and education, it is proud to be longtime supporters of the Connecticut Invention Convention.


RTX Jules Verne Awards

These two Best of Show awards are awarded to students and their inventions by longtime partner RTX. The Jules Verne Award recognizes an invention that took a chance: an out of the box or speculative idea with no guarantee of success, but that demonstrates the innovative nature of young minds. RTX celebrates its researchers and scientists that develop breakthrough technologies to further its endeavors in the sky. 


Stanley Black & Decker Grow The Trades Awards

This Best of Show award is presented by Stanley Black & Decker to a young inventor who shows particular capacity in advancing the capacity of tradesmen and tradeswoman through innovative new products and ideas. 


Starlight Excellence in Construction Award

The Starlight Excellence in Construction Award celebrates an inventor whose invention addresses practical challenges and offers innovative solutions with potential applications in construction, design, or community development. 


SWE Innovation Awards

These awards are awarded to outstanding young female inventors who show extraordinary talent in engineering. They are presented by CIC partner the Society of Women Engineers.


Telaid Innovation in Integration Award

The Telaid Innovation in Integration Award is presented to a young inventor who demonstrated exceptional creativity in combining and/or integrating different technologies to yield a new and more effective solution to a problem they've identified.


Travelers Safe Home Award

This award is presented by CIC partner Travelers to a student whose invention represents a creative means of making the home a safer and happier place.


Trinity College Entrepreneurship Center Award

The Trinity College Entrepreneurship Center Award honors an inventor whose invention displays exceptional creativity, entrepreneurial potential, and the promise of real-world impact. The winner of this award will receive support from the Trinity College Entrepreneurship Center in advancing their invention towards commercialization.

The Troutman Pepper Locke Excellence in STEM Awards are selected by a team of attorneys at Troutman Pepper Locke and are presented to inventors that are determined to have an exceptional opportunity to secure intellectual property rights. The winners will receive pro-bono services to submit a variety of formal applications to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). 


Emerging Innovator Award

The Troutman Pepper Locke Emerging Innovator Awards are selected by a team of attorneys at Troutman Pepper Locke and are presented to inventors that are determined to have the unique

qualities of an aspiring innovator.


Trademark Fanciful Award

The Troutman Pepper Locke Trademark Fanciful Award is selected by a team of attorneys at Troutman Pepper Locke and is presented to an inventor whose ideas are determined to exemplify the qualities of a strong trademark.


Trademark Knockout Award

The Troutman Pepper Locke Trademark Award is selected by a team of attorneys at Troutman Pepper Locke and is presented to an inventor that is determined to have an exceptional

opportunity to secure intellectual property rights. The winner(s) will receive pro-bono services for

trademark clearance (“knock-out”) search services.


TRUMPF Award

This award is presented by CIC sponsor TRUMPF to a student whose invention represents the kind of innovation and creative problem-solving that sets TRUMPF apart.


Telaid Innovation in Integration Award

This award is presented by CIC partner Telaid to a young inventor who has shown particular skill and creativity in combining and integrating existing technologies to make something better.


UConn School of Business Entrepreneurship Award

This award is presented by CIC partner the University of Connecticut to a student who shows particularly strong entrepreneurial skills and whose invention represents a uniquely commercializable product. 


UConn School of Engineering Innovation in Engineering Award

This award is presented by CIC partner the University of Connecticut to a student who shows a robust understanding of engineering design and prototyping. 


UConn School of Fine Arts Creativity Award

This award is presented by CIC partner the University of Connecticut to a student who shows exceptionally unique creativity and design skill. 


UConn School of Nursing Care Delivery Award

The University of Connecticut's Nursing Care Delivery Worker Award is presented by the School of Nursing in recognition of an inventor whose invention represents a particularly creative innovation within the field of medicine and healthcare.


US Innovator Challenge Invitations

The U.S. Innovator Challenge award is an invitation based K-12 innovation competition hosted by Innovation World to compete against the nation's most talented and earnest inventors in a virtual environment with the opportunity – if selected as a winner at this event – to matriculate to compete at its subsequent virtual global competition. 


US Nationals Invitations

Select students will be chosen to advance to the Invention Convention U.S. Nationals at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan in 2026. 


Yale Club of Hartford’s Samuel Morse Award

This award is presented by CIC partner the Yale Club of Hartford to a young student inventor whose innovation is emblematic of the genius of Yale graduate Samuel Morse.


Yale Club of Hartford’s David Bushnell Award

This award is presented by CIC partner the Yale Club of Hartford to a young student inventor whose innovation is emblematic of the genius of Yale graduate David Bushnell.


Zachs Family Toys and Games Award

The Zachs Toys and Games Award is presented in honor of Donald "D" Pearlstein, who spent his life in service of improving the lives of children. This award honors an inventor whose invention brings creativity, fun, and imagination to life through toys, games, or playful solutions.
